The World Council of Optometry (WCO) is committed to meeting the global eye and vision care needs via collaboration. A multidisciplinary approach will help ensure efficiency — precious resources will be effectively allocated to the development of sustainable, accessible delivery systems offering high-quality, cost-effective eye care. Within this context, we have developed partnerships with many international organizations dedicated to improving social welfare. Examples include:
|
| |
International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB)

The WCO holds Level A membership with the IAPB. WCO President-Elect Robert Chappell sits on the IAPB Board of Trustees.
|

The WCO and UNESCO Chair of Visual Health and Development have entered a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the framework of collaboration. We may work together on projects involving public health promotion, teaching and research.

World Health Organization (WHO)

The WCO was admitted into official relations with the WHO by a unanimous decision of the WHO Executive Board, which is composed of 32 Member States. The WCO is the first and only optometric organization to have this designation.
