To address the alarming eye care needs of the world, the World Council of Optometry (WCO) established the World Optometry Foundation (WOF), a complementary, not-for-profit corporation [501(c)(3)]. As an ancillary, yet independent, entity, the WOF is designed to finance humanitarian projects developed by the WCO and other international prevention of blindness organizations. The WOF partners with individuals, academic institutions, professional associations, charities, government agencies and public health ministries to upgrade optometric education, augment primary eye care and prevent visual impairment. It funds a broad spectrum of projects that foster self-sufficiency and long-term independence among developing nations.
